Where do the Red Man Riders ride from ????    MAP!

Red Man Riders are an off shoot from Red Man Runners. The inaugural Red Man ride was held on April the 13th 2008. The ride is not planned to      be a hard training ride but a moderately paced group ride. We attempt to have plenty of options for shorter trips within the main ride and aim to get      as many people as possible out for a ride. The rides are held on Sunday mornings and we attempt to plan a ride once a month. See you there!

NEXT RIDE:  116km Robina Loop (world's most beautiful ride). Saturday 21st of March 2009.

    Saturday RIDE Report 6th December:

Dave.Y, Alan, Tamsyn, Deb (visiting from Canberra) and Thor rolled out of the Robina train station with a 116km loop ride through the mountains of the Gold     Coast hinterland ahead of them. Once again Dave predicted we wouldn't be bothered by storms and annoyingly he was correct again. It was a warm but generally     overcast which meant conditions weren't too bad.

Before we knew it we were making our first border crossing at the top of one of the nasty climbs. From there it is one of the more harrowing descents down toward     the Chillingham fruit shop. About 5km out from Chillingham I was cruising along about 10 metres behind Deb when a loud nasty sounding noise came from her bike.     At first I thought something had broken loose from her bike and was looking to avoid it but it turned out to be her tube bursting and her tyre giving way. We had     plenty of tubes but no spare tyres so we went into improvisation mode. We eventually decided on lining the tyre with a GU wrapper. Is there anything GU can't fix?     We got Deb's bike into Chillingham and decided to try and get it 15km more to Murwillumbah where we hope to find a bike shop. The Chillingham fruit shop lady     told us she new a bike shop owner in Murwillumbah. (Why didn't that surprise me?). After a phone call to 'Jim' I was sent off on a solo sprint into Murwillumbah     before closing time for Jim's Bikes. The whole town closes at lunch time on Saturday. He did give us his home number in case he had to head off first and promised     he would come back down to the shop to help us. I'm guessing that wouldn't have been a promise in Brisbane. Would you believe that Plan A worked perfectly and     Jim was still in the store when I arrived? Well it did, and they even managed to get Deb's bike into town so we could repair it while eating lunch.

After that excitement it was just the toughest climb of the day (about 5km long and nasty) and some leg sapping short climbs and we were back at Robina. Whew!     What a day out. Fantastic company and great fun. There was even a discussion on the way home of putting together the ultimate bike adventure from Bangkok to     Singapore. Of course Dave had to go one step too far and suggest we start the adventure at the Phuket triathlon. We are now looking for suggestions for our next     local ride possibly on Sunday the 21st of December.

RIDE Report for Saturday 22nd of November:

I rang Dave.Y on Friday all ready to change our Saturday ride from the mountain trek to a flat ride to the Gold Coast and back as more storms were forecast and I     was concerned about local flooding and debris on our original course. He would not hear of it and assured me we would beat home any bad weather and that we     could cross any obstacle nature put in our path. I told him if the ride was a complete success and the weather didn't get us that I would make a public apology for     ever doubting him. So here goes. Dave I am sorry I ever questioned the sanity of continuing with our planned 116km trek through the border ranges.

We started out with 7 riders from the Robina train station. Dave.Y, Alan.B, Ian.H, Tamsyn, Stew (from Alan's work) and Bob and Carolyn. (2 Canadians Dave had     met during the week who are here for the Busselton Ironman). After the first two climbs we were down to five riders. Carolyn's knee had flared up and she and Bob     decided to head back via Nerang.

The weather was perfect with blue skies and a breeze steadily building. This ride would be remarkable for the fact that despite riding a loop course the wind seemed     to be behind us for 97% of the time. The breeze became a wind at times and some of the descents became quite interesting with the road surface littered with leaves,     sticks and branches. It is beautiful countryside for a ride and there are very few cars on the roads. We all road calmly at our own paces and before we knew it we     were making our first border crossing and looking forward to smoko at Chillingham. 20c Bananas or 3 for 50c if you fancy a drive.

We did encounter one water crossing. 4 inches deep across a causeway. Murwillumbah was our stop for lunch and then the toughest climb of the day back over the    border into Queensland. The forecast storm was no where to be seen and Dave's gloating was becoming a little difficult to stomach. Surely heading north again we    had to ride into the wind. No. It seemed to just blow across our path and after another stop to fill up water bottles we were back at Robina. Great ride, wonderful    company and no major incidents. (Tally: One knee injury, One flat tyre. Hard to complain about that). It seems likely that you will get your chance again to join this    ride in 2 weekends time. Full details will be posted as they become available. MAP of ride.
