MAGIC MARY

     Magic Mary wins at Warwick! A cool clear morning greeted the competitors for the first event of the Warwick Pentathrun; the      Half Marathon. More than $150 in bets was being held on the outcome of  "The Match-Race" between Mary.A and the Elfman      with the proceeds going towards the Road-Relay Team, and ultimately charity.

    Mary may have been a little on edge and at the sound of the gun she stormed out of Warwick towards Yangan. Elfman kept her     within sight early. Within 5kms reports were filtering through that the gap was starting to stretch and that maybe the Elfman had     already lost touch. Peter.A and Michael.K were driving the course and passing updates to everyone as "The Match-Race" unfolded.

    Opinions varied within the small group I was running with. Would Mary just keep going or had Elfman paced himself better and the     notorious hills toward the end of the race would see Elfman reel Mary in for a memorable win?

    Each time we had an update Mary had stretched the lead a little further. Would the comeback eventuate?

    NO it wouldn't! Mary just got stronger and the lead kept stretching. She ran into Yangan looking fresh and received the cheers of     the crowd and the glory of being the victor of  "Match Race 2007".

    Elfman came into town looking a little worse for wear. He was very gracious in defeat and despite his leg playing up a bit during the     morning he would not hear of it as an excuse. It was simply a case of Mary being Magic!
