Brett.R talks about the Ironman Australia Triathlon 2009.

If it was easy everyone would do it! (And let me tell you, it doesn't get any easier!)

Hello winners, Team Brett is back in Brisbane and after another successful Ironman campaign. I came away with a finish and didn't end up      in the hospital tent at the end of the day, so all things considered, it was a good day out.

My official finisher's time was 14:27:35, with my splits being: 3.8 km swim: 1:14 180km bike 6:59 42.2km run 6:13. Not the fastest day      out, but for the most part, I was comfortable out there. A finish is a finish after all. The swim was fantastic and I felt like I could have      swum all day (I was channelling Tom). The bike was made harder by fairly consistent light rain and a decent headwind on the way out, and      despite saving my legs quite well, I was buggered by the end. Getting ready for the run was interesting, as transition was a mud bath due      to heavy rain in the lead up to the race. The volunteers were great though and gave everyone a fresh white towel to wash the mud off      our filthy feet to ensure we were dry for the marathon.

I was not feeling that interested in the 42 km but I was surprised to find a rhythm quickly once I got started. I was slow but consistent      and only started to struggle at around the 30km mark. I had to walk a couple of kms at 35km, but managed to run home for the final 3      ks.

The crowd as always was amazing, and the finish chute always makes the pain worth while. Also helping was my superb support crew and     their great t-shirts, big sign, and loud voices. A nice end to the day was taking my shoes off after finishing and walking through the     aforementioned thick mud to collect my bike. The ooze felt wonderful! Attached are some action shots from the day.

I'm looking forward to easing the training right back despite planning to attack the Gold Coast Marathon in early July.
