RACE REPORT - DOOMBEN 2008

There was a strong representation from the Red Man Runners in the 2008 Doomben Heritage Half Marathon and the Doomben 10,000. A few of the outstanding      performances by RMR in the Half Marathon were; Sarah.W 2nd in her age group and 8th Female overall, Mel and Kirsty with P.Bs and Geoff.J.R showing he is      running right back into form with a sub 1:35 run. Justin.J was brilliant in the 10,000 running 36:35 to finish 3rd in his age group and 15th overall.

Geoff.J.R: Doomben went well. The first time for me. I managed a 1hr 33min 52.

Mel: Overall for me Doomben went pretty well. My hip had started to really play up in the week before, and I had almost talked myself out of the whole race. The      rain was kind to us all and stopped just before the start, and didn't rain a drop for the whole morning - didn't even step in one paddle!! Really missed having Peter H      with me to keep me under control in the first 5 -8km. Couldn't work out where Dave was at the beginning, but he can fill you in on that one. In the end I finished in      1.43.17 (a new PB ) Now that I have run two Half Marathons I can actually say I have a PB!! Always great to see so many friendly RMR faces on the course.

Tara.S: We were so lucky and the rain held off. I wasn't feeling in top form and didn't do quite as well as Brisbane 2hrs 3min...I just couldn't make under the 2hrs      this time.....watch out Gold Coast! (ED Note: Tara ran the longest run of her life the Saturday before covering 23km).

Watch out for John.D ! He is slowly getting back into full training and started back with speed training 2 weeks ago. He finished 22nd in the 10km and must have      had Justin.J looking over his shoulder.

Both Janelle and Kirsty have been in heavy training logging big kilometres in the lead-up to the Gold Coast and ran impressively in the Half. Kirsty was very strong      on the day and I believe delighted with her effort. (Kirsty ran a P.B)

One of the RMR slept in ! The story is that it was a new clock and Dave set it for 5PM. What's even funnier is that when he did eventually get up he thought the      race started at 7:20 so he hurried across town to find that he had that wrong to and the race was already underway.

When you get to see the full list you will notice that Alan and Geoff.A's times are swapped. What happened? I picked up 3 peoples packs and obviously mixed up      two timing chips. We ended up with each others times. I know you are not surprised I would make such a mistake. Next year I hope to swap my timing chip for      Justin's.
