     BRISBANE HALF MARATHON 2008

A beautiful Brisbane morning was attempting to unfold as the runners gathered in the predawn gloom at South Bank. Cool and partly cloudy with the risk of light       showers. Pretty much perfect for a crack at the 21.1kms. The Red Man Runners had trained well leading up to the event but unfortunately Gary had injury his leg in       the week prior and didn't start and Paul was going in with the effects of a cold still lingering. Nothing new for those who run regularly. That meant we had Tara,       Sarah, Melanie, Jo, Paul, Geoff.J.R, Mark.C and Peter competing.

Tara. That's how good it feels to go under 2 hours for the Half Marathon !     Peter, Melanie, Tara and Jo.

TARA. Definitely the winner of the most excited finisher. Did she run a P.B ? You bet she did! Tara had only previously run one Half       Marathon and had finished in 2 hrs 20 mins. Despite the showers late in her run Tara finished the Brisbane Half Marathon in a clock time of 1Hr 59Min 29Secs.

SARAH. Despite the singlet and hat she wore ran a tremendous Half stopping the clock in 1Hr 33Mins 43Secs.

MELANIE. Smiled the whole way, yelled out commentary as she passed by and still managed to run 1Hr 46Mins 39Secs. Did Melanie run       a P.B ? You bet she did ! Mel had never raced over the distance before. What a great first time run.

JO. Unfortunately we didn't capture a photo of Jo during the run but you can see Jo at the start in the picture above. She stopped the clock       in 2Hrs 7Mins 38Secs running through the showers to the finish.

PAUL. Unfortuately came into the event with a cold but managed to still run a great 1Hr 33Mins 39Secs.

GEOFF.J.R is slowly coming back to full fitness and worked this one hard to run an eye catching 1Hr 36Mins 29Secs. Geoff said; "Good      conditions, good number of entrants, good race, ok time and well organised, just they needed more toilets")

MARK.C fresh from his heroics at the Sahara Marathon was on fire. He blew past in the finishing shute and between gasps for breath he        cried out; "P.B !!"   1Hr 25Min 58Secs clock time. The Draft results have him at 37th from 1121 starters !!

PETER's view of the day . 1:48:51. The day started well, it was good to see other Red Man Runners getting up early on a Sunday        morning!! Melanie and I planned to run at a 5 minute pace and for the first 9 kilometres all was going well, although Melanie was doing it far too easily for my        liking! Then after about 10 Klms I suffered a strain to the top of my left quad, nothing too serious (the physio said that I can continue to run, although I'll have to        miss speedwork for a couple of weeks). It didn't affect me too much and I managed to finish in 1 hour 47mins 51 secs, according to my watch, although having to        queue to get my chip swiped, the official time is likely to be 48 minutes. Congratulations to everyone, especially to those who run their first half marathon.

As you can see it was another great day for the RED MAN RUNNERS !!
