Ride Report for Monday 01st of December: Mt Tamborine Dave and Alan decided they would take the opportunity of both having Monday off to go out for a long ride. We set out from Brisbane at 6am but it turns out that is not early enough to avoid the traffic on Logan Rd. Fortunately after Logan the traffic thinned out the country road toward Tamborine is quite picturesque. We even saw a Jabiru in a dam along the way. It was the second time I'd done the climb and I couldn't remember it being too bad. I soon discovered why that was. The first half is pretty steep and nasty and there is little shade but it then eases off a bit and you travel up through much cooler, shady rainforest and you tend to forget about the first few kilometres that really suck. Sitting outside a cafe in Mt Tamborine village I was telling Dave that Peter and Patti.W now lived on the mountain. No sooner had I finished than Patti walked past. She stopped for a chat and told us that Peter was off playing golf. Imagine my surprise when she told me that Peter now knows quite a few people in the village. Descending off the mountain we headed for Oxenford and then rejoined the M2. Brisbane's joke of a bikeway back to Brisbane. We didn't want to tackle the cars on Logan Rd again so we decided to catch the train back from Beenleigh. Brett will be pleased to know we rode into a head wind back toward Brisbane. Not too late to join us for a ride on Saturday. Details above.
Run Report for Tuesday 02nd of December: A good sized group started the warmup run in warm conditions. With a long tough running season tapering off into summer we are not surprisingly carrying a number of tired and injured runners. This session was therefore split into groups. Those recovering and/or struggling and those still in one piece. Mel finally talked Anthony into turning up to run with the Red Man Runners and he appeared to enjoy the short sharp workout. Fortunately we got through the session without any new injuries. You can expect recovery runs to be built into all of our sessions for a while as the Road Relay team rest tired bodies. Saturday it will be a bit of shorter week with runs from 10 to 15km. For those still in shape for a run don't forget Kurrawa 2 Duranbah Sunday 14th of December. Online entry closes midnight 5th of Dec.
Run Report for Saturday 29th of November: Well over 20 runners set out from the Red Man. The majority of the group were set on a fairly short run with the Road Relay participants in recovery mode, Brett and Rachael in full taper for Ironman WA and Kelly saving herself for the Off Road Triathlon TRE-X tomorrow at Mt Cotton. That left the Coppers, Andrew and Alan to cover the 18-20km course around via the RBH. Our Police contingent are really getting into this running capper and didn't look to struggle too much with the days task. The forecast thundery rain didn't eventuate and that just left us with overcast, muggy and sweaty. Breakfast was very well attended. Rachael chatted nervously with her thoughts full of her first marathon just 8 days away, Liz.A showed of her wedding photos and Chris sat smirking wearing his I beat Wes shirt. Another great day out with the Red Man Runners.
The Bella Della Restaurant is NOW OPEN and the Elfman tells me the food tastes absolutely fantastic. He enjoyed lunch there yesterday. Bella Della Spaghetti Casa. 803 Stanley St Woolloongabba. 3391 6111. (At the base of the Gabba Central development).
Run Report for Thursday 27th of November: About a dozen turned up for this run. The sore, the tired, the recovering...... Mark.C and Elite "G" still found some pace and led us down to the Regatta in humid conditions with a tail wind. Mel and Chris.B told stories of the Road Relay, and yes the fact that Chris beat Wes in one of the runs did come up Judy. The trip back to the Red Man was cooler into the breeze but a little tougher and Andrew one of the few running on relatively fresh legs cruised along. More Road Relay tales were told around the lollie jar at the end. Welcome again to Paul who decided after Tuesday that he would run with us again and to Kelly who had her first run with the Red Man Runners last Saturday with a heavy Police escort. Hope to see you both again Saturday.
