 Mark.C conquers the SAHARA MARATHON.

Hi Guys, yes - I've managed to survive the Sahara Marathon. ran a time of 3:25:40, came 15th out of a field of 110. It was quite an experience - the     race conditions on the day were great (a day earlier would have been too hot - a day later too windy - like sand storm windy !)  I didn't expect to finish     in the time I did (the guy who won did 2:43 - Spain),  I was expecting it to be a bit warmer - and after the windy start. It did get "hot" from the 30km     mark to the end (which incidently is a little "short" by a couple of 100mts of 42.2km But it was close enough for me ! The uneven ground however     compensated for the lack of heat, ie: the ground, in some places was quite sandy with a nice little sandy incline just before the 30km mark - just what     you want to see when the legs are starting to get a bit heavy! It was a great experience, and I'll tell you all more when I get back. Am sipping coffee     in an internet cafe in down town Madrid (guess life's tough for some - ha!) Will be back in Aust. next on the 8/03, so might venture down to Redman     Runners on following Sat. Great to hear the results in Bris. - 3rd place - that's fantastic ! Well, will look forward to seeing you all when I get back     Adios ! Mark.C

Thanks to the kind folks at pbphotographics all of the photos of Red Man Runners in the 2008      3km Club Challenge are now available right here on  your favourite running web-site.

Injury Update: Liz.A continues to struggle with calf soreness but is on the improve and now only slowed by the large rock on her left hand.. Trudy is on the come       back trail but taking it slowly and hoping to be back this Saturday. John.D has been slowed by shin splints. Liz.D is nursing a return of her leg soreness but must be       hopeful of a swift full recovery as she is talking about the Sydney marathon. Clare.D got through the 3km race Friday night and looked fantastic in finishing.     Would you believe another "D" sister is on her way down-under! Maria will join Liz and Clare and race over 10kms at the     Gold Coast in July. Maria's husband will also be visiting from Ireland and is planning on competing in the Gold Coast Half.

Run Report for Tuesday 26th of February: The very recently engaged Liz.A made an appearance. Possibly just to show-off the new rock. All of the       Red Man Runners were still buzzing after Friday nights great result for the club. For the last four weeks it has rained on Tuesday. But we have decided it doesn't       rain between 5.30 and 6.30pm on Tuesdays. It was a great night for going fast. Cool and breezy and the rain held off till we had finished. The sessions are getting       slightly longer and tougher but evenone is running into winter running season form and enjoying the extra work. Especially Tony.Di who is looking trimmer each       week and definitely going quicker. At the front it was Mocha and Justin then a largish pack made up of both Geoff.Rs, Paul, Gary, Alan and Peter with Judy, and       Liz.A weighed down by that rock. Saturday's forecast is for a shower or two and 26C. We are looking at stepping up the distance a touch and this cool day may       be a good opportunity.

Our next run as a group will be the Saturday morning long-run, but many of the Red Men are in the habit of turning up at the "Gale Force" session on Thursday       evenings at WestEnd approximately 500mts west of the Paul's Factory. Run by Lew.W.

Club RESULTS and PHOTOS now available.

FRIDAY NIGHT 3KM DASH ! The RED MAN RUNNERS were simply MAGNIFICENT !! In a field of       approximately 200 (18 of which were Red Man Runners) we had 11 in the top 72. Two in the top 11 and strong right through       the team. What a great night to wear the club singlet and enjoy a full-on competitive run. Judy was like a proud mum at the       end of the event and beaming about the performances of the RED MAN RUNNERS. (Please send in your watch times so we       can add them too). Fantastic effort guys! And a big Thank You to Pat Carrol for putting together the event. My first attempt at       measuring Friday nights course 3.1kms. Justin got 3.09 on his GPS and John.D 3.14km on his bike computer.

G'day Pat, On behalf of the Red Man Runners... THANK YOU. What a great event and we had a wonderful time. Thank you       for what you are doing for running in Brisbane in general and for the 3km Club Challenge in particular.

Pat's response: Thanks for coming along guys and thanks for your kind words. It's fantastic to see another running group       kicking off in Brisbane. I wish your group all the best and sorry about the last minute venue change. Cheers Pat

Liz rates this MOVIE a "Must See". Winner of four OSCARS including BEST PICTURE !

The fact is that Liz also predicted the Oscars for this picture.

Congratulations to Liz.A and Bruce on their engagement !

Run Report for Saturday 16th of February:  YIKES! After all of the great weather we have had this year Brisbane's summer finally decided to turn up.       It was hot, it was humid. As luck would have it this was always put down as a "rest week". After last nights 3km dash it had been decided that we should only do       15kms this week. Great decision. Justin after being the first Red Man home last night and 8th overall complained of slightly sore legs and then disappeared off the       front of the pack. Karyn, Chris and Gary also went out quickly. Paul and Sarah were in behind them. Both Geoff.Rs, Judy and Alan formed a small pack and then       Peter.W and Katia. The majority or runners were happy with 15kms and Peter.W 17kms. Katia was planning on 24kms. Not sure how that ended up. John.D was       out on the bike after pulling up with shin-splints recently. Liz.D joined us at New Farm Park. The last time I saw Karyn, Chris and Gary they were headed for the       Sth Bank pools....

The LONG RUN program has been updated to fit in the dates and distances for those training for the Singapore, Gold Coast and Sydney       Marathons. Check it out and plan your Saturdays around it.

ONE FOR THE DIARY:  Ian's Run - Friday 11 April 2008. FROM Chris Gale: For those of you who are unaware, earlier this year, my father passed away       from prostrate cancer. In recognition of his support, I am going to establish a run / walk on the anniversary of his death each year - 11 April, with the aim of raising       vital funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. In 2008, the run will be held from the Chalk Hotel. The Chalk Hotel have given there full support for       the event! Once all details have been finalised (eg. cost, distances, time etc), I will forward this out to you all & ask for your support & to encourage your fellow       runners to participate! It is not a fun run or race, but a group run / walk aimed at raising vital funds for a worthy cause! After the event, we will have a few       speeches where a cheque will be presented to the Prostrate Cancer Foundation of Australia! Followed by drinks and / or meal! With the planning already       underway, quite a few corporations have expressed an interest in donating to the event & making it a success! Once again, I will keep you all posted on these       developments! Please indicate if your interested in attending & supporting this cause! I look forward to your support & that of your training groups, clubs, family &       friends. Yours in running. Chris Gale 0408 877 624 chris@galeforcerunning.com

  injinji toe socks

If you're going to wear socks on your feet, why not try a healthier and more comfortable option. Think about it...Traditional socks like mittens, cram      all your toes together in a toasty, oven-like environment perfect for creating skin on skin friction, heat, moisture and bacteria build up between your      toes. Injinji's patented Performance Series Tetratsoks are socks designed with five separate toe sleeves to fit your feet like a glove. Seamless in      construction, the Coolmax Tetratsok allows you to separate and spread your toes improving air flow through the foot to keep each toe cooler and      more comfortable by wicking away moisture, eliminating skin on skin friction and preventing blisters. In addition, the five toe design provides      improved circulation, effectively reduces the contraction and/or spread of fungal conditions and more importantly, it allows you to activate your toes,      strengthening the muscles in the foot and allowing you to be bio-mechanically correct within the shoe. The Tetratsok is the only performance sock      which can provide true restriction free movement from heel to five toes just like being barefoot. It just makes sense! Free your Toes. For more      information, go to www.injinji.com.au or simply Google Injinji and see for yourself how many people are making the switch.
