Where will the Adidas / Red Man Runners tent be set up at the Gold Coast? MAP

Can I leave my bag at the Adidas / Red Man Runners tent on Sunday morning? YES. Mel and Tara and a number of other helpers      will be catering and running a bag minding service as well as looking after wallets and the like for the Red Man Runners. We will also have      Galeforce setting up their tent beside us.

Breakfast / brunch will be available for just $10 / head. If you have not already put your name down for breakfast please contact Judy or Mel immediately to avoid disappointment. The FULL MENU is now available. I would like to extend an enormous thank you to everyone who has volunteered their time and effort toward making Sunday a special day for the Red Man Runners. In particular Judy, Mel and Tara;although I know there are many more. I would like to suggest you take a moment on Sunday to thank them when you see them.

If you are hoping to start the race with your Red Man mates on Sunday it has been suggested that we meet up at tent 30 minutes prior      to the event starts. Tip #1 for the races on Sunday: Bring some of your own toilet paper with you in your bag. Hopefully they won't run      out but it's best to be prepared. Tip #2 If you are driving down, consider stopping at toilets on the way to the coast. It can be a long wait      at the official portaloos when all you want to do is go for a warmup jog. Tip #3 Are you planning to meet someone near the start or      finish? Make sure you exchange mobile ph numbers. There are thousands of people trying to do the same thing in the start / finish area.

Not toilet related. Did you know our very our Andreas will be one of the official 4 hour pacers for Sunday's marathon?

(UPDATED) Weather forecast for Sunday: Perfect. A cold night followed by a fine cool day. Dry 7C to 19C. The brisk south westerly      winds have arrived but should moderate by, or during Saturday. There is likely to be extensive high cloud cover on Sunday which should      block most of the effect of the sun which was originally a negative with the later start this year of the marathon. Worst case you have a      fresh breeze aiding you for the longest leg from the 15km to 36km marks. Suck it up people.

    THIS WEEK'S RUN REPORTS:

     Thursday 2nd of July:

A good sized group gathered at the Red Man for the last official run prior to the Gold Coast races. (Official count 21).

There was plenty of excitement and nervous talk prior to and during the run which was a very well behave stroll out to the Sydney St      ferry stop through the city. Even Rob, Mocha and Mark.C who led the group ran fairly conservatively. Good luck to everyone who is      running on Sunday.

     Tuesday 30th of June:

     23 starters for the session.

A very excited bunch just 5 days out from the Gold Coast races. Judy could not quite understand though why the boys were all so      distracted during her session brief until she realised there was a half dressed girl being photographed in the building behind her. Not      something you see every time you go running.

Eventually we got underway. It's a very eclectic group at the moment. We've got Mark.C flying up and down with John.D doing sprints,      the marathoners doing race pace repeats, the Brisbane marathon group doing a long brisk session, Michael.K testing out injured legs and      a very pregnant Janelle walking up and down.

The excited Gold Coast entrants didn't seem to want to go home after the session. They stayed and chatted; or perhaps it was the girl in      the window? Judy was very pleased that by the time she had finished it was a guy they were photographing.

There will definitely be a run from the Red Man on Thursday evening. Flat and slow ! See you then.

     Saturday 27th of June:

At 4.30am it was miserable and those of us who were up and about probably thought of heading back to a snug bed and forgetting      about the rain, cold, puddles, wet shoes and socks in favour of a few more hours sleep.  However, I was pleased to see many other faces      turning up for a run in the rain.  Those 4 or 5 of you who didn’t appear (Peter Harber, Paul Ross, Carly, Hugh, Mocha) can rest assured      that you received a few mentions along the way, especially when it didn’t rain for the entire run.  Alan B and Liz J did manage to have      reasonable excuses.
The Gold Coast Marathon group were particularly chirpy as they only had to get through 16ks whereas the Brisbane Marathon group      (those that live in hope that this race actually exists) had to face 30ks and were likely to miss the pancake breakfast.  The smiles on the      faces of the first timers showed their excitement at making it to the last week of training.  It is so good to see they have all made it      through the training and are now ready to take their places on the starting line next Sunday.
It was an impressive sight with the whole group heading out onto Coro Drive.  We certainly outnumbered any other groups out on the      road.  The Brisbane Marathon group were the last to head off and approaching the Uni, we did expect to see the others heading back to      Redman.  I started to worry that some one at the front had decided to take everyone out onto Fairfield Road.  We arrived at the Uni to      find Gary, Demo, Dave and Dennis thoroughly enjoying the GU stop.  They believed the others had headed back across the Green Bridge      (this is the third time the boys at the front have gone the wrong way).
Our Brisbane group headed back to the city with a run to GU stop to finish off the day.  We decided to travel this course in reverse and      ended up adding a few extra ks, not because we were thoroughly enjoying our time out there but we decided to back track a bit to avoid      roadworks.  We figured this was not wasted training as the Brisbane course is guaranteed to have loops, backtracking, multiple bridge      crossings etc.
If you had to pick conditions to run a marathon, today certainly came close to ideal, even with a run out and back on Coro Drive.

G'day Red Man Runners : I've heard some notable runners write poetry while running to while away the miles. This is an offering I presented to Demo, Gary and the boys yesterday. I thought you might get a laugh. Its very blokie naturally. Dennis.G.

A Month With No Beer (Sound File complete with music)

Well it’s lonesome out there on the roads day and night
You get chased by the dogs and give old ladies a fright
And our training is brutal, it’s mile after mile
Through the cold and the rain we plod on in style

We are Demo’s Runners, we had quite a group
There was Dave, Chris and Tony, and Mark flew the coop
While Demo’s our leader, Gary takes us in charge
He gees us all up and makes us train really hard.

We run from the Redman all over this town
We know every road, whether uphill or down
And the ladies all smile as Demo runs past
They say hidyhi and check out his arse

He calls me Young Fella, and that makes me grin
I’m not built for running, but running’s my thing
And Dave is a dark horse, he says he’s a geek
With Demo his sidekick they pound up the street

Now Brian’s a Kiwi, but don’t you be fooled
He can run like an emu, and talks a bit too
He bought a new Garmin, gets lost without it
He can party all night, but he’s still pretty quick

He loves a big brekkie after a run
We all sit and watch and have lots of fun
There’s only one thing that could bring a tear
What a hell of a time is a month without beer

We’ve given up drinking, we look really trim
We fill up on carbs, and go off to the gym
But there’s nothing so lonesome, morbid or drear
As an Origin night, when you can’t have a beer

Now Judy’s the General, we fall in behind
But Gary’s a rebel, he won’t toe the line
The rain it gets to him, but he’ll never drop
While he keeps an eye out for the next toilet stop

But we’ll all have our memories, I’m sure we’ll agree,
After 5th of July and that race by the sea
Though our knees are all dodgy, our goal it is clear

Marathon mates, what’s a month without beer?
